South pine to hays inlet powerline duplication project
Construction activities will begin in July on the new 110,000 volt (110kV) powerline which runs along an easement, parallel to the existing powerline which connects Powerlink’s bulk supply substation at South Pine Road, Brendale with ENERGEX’s Hays Inlet Substation at McKillop Street, Rothwell.

project need
In recent years, the population of the area has grown significantly, with a number of new housing estates and communities around North Lakes, Mango Hill and Griffin. The area is also experiencing a substantial increase business and commercial development, including the expansion of Westfield North Lakes, and the establishment of the North Lakes Business Centre.
project background
The proposed duplication project received Ministerial approval in August 2009. Extensive community consultation activities were held between July 2008 and January 2009. The detailed feedback we received from the community has enabled ENERGEX to identify and fully consider potential impacts on residents, wildlife and environment, and to develop effective mitigation strategies.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2010.
about the powerline route
The project will include the construction of 35 steel towers along the ENERGEX easement. The majority of new towers will be constructed alongside the existing towers to minimise the visual impact. The preferred route and co-location with existing towers was found to be the most effective corridor option that importantly, will have the least overall environmental, community and economic impact.

community consultation
ENERGEX would like to thank the community of the Moreton Region for their feedback and comments on the planned duplication of the South Pine to Hays Inlet powerline. We are committed to keeping the community and stakeholders up to date about the project using a combination of communication mediums such as newsletters, direct mail, local press and media.
ENERGEX looks forward to working closely with local residents and key stakeholders through the construction process, and on the planned revegetation and landscaping of the ENERGEX corridor through Murrumba Downs.
