Industry structure

Based in Queensland, we are one of the largest electricity corporations in Australia.

Energex, a subsidiary of Energy Queensland Limited, is a government-owned corporation operating under the provisions of the Government Owned Corporations Act 1993 (GOC Act).

The corporation pays a dividend to its Shareholding Ministers on behalf of the Queensland Government.

The electricity supply industry in which we operate is organised like links in a chain connecting the separate elements of generation, transmission, distribution and retail.

Electricity is supplied to us through a high-voltage transmission network that is owned and operated by Powerlink Queensland, a government owned corporation.

As electricity cannot be branded to distinguish its generator, all electricity is centrally pooled and scheduled to meet demand. This pool is managed by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
