Safety is the number one priority for us - safety for our employees, our customers and the community. Zero injuries remains our aspirational goal and our Leader in Safety objective coupled with our Health, Safety and Environment Improvement Plan initiatives and actions will ensure progress towards this goal.
A leader in safety
A work environment free of injury and illness is a long-term goal for us and we have implemented a world-class Integrated Management System into our business to continually improve our health and safety performance. This system is underpinned by driving positive behavioural change and by the quarterly targeted ‘No One Gets Hurt Today’ safety campaign.
Our workplace safety performance is comparable to industry benchmarks. To read more on how we measure up, view our latest Annual Stakeholder Report.
Our Health, Safety and Environment Strategic Plan has been developed to outline and align the whole-of-business safety-related tactics, supporting initiatives and management responsibilities to achieve our safety goal.
Our Health, Safety and Environment Policy (PDF 418.1 kb) articulates our commitment to providing a safe working environment and giving the highest priority to the health and safety of our employees, contractors and members of the public.
Safety reward and recognition
We reward our employees for safe working behaviours and encourage our people to be proactive about safety.
The Comprehensive Safety Indicator (CSI) uses a series of quantitative and behavioural indicators to measure a team’s safety performance. Teams that perform strongly are recognized with gold, silver and bronze awards that are presented annually. Individual safety performance is recognised through the celebration of employee service milestones achieved without having a Lost Time Injury (LTI).
Proactive health and wellbeing programs
Our Health, Safety and Environment Group provides employees with proactive health programs to assist them to self manage their own health. These programs include:
- Flu vaccinations
- A health and wellbeing program
- An Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- A drug and alcohol program
- Occupational health monitoring and surveillance programs.
Continually working towards better safety
Every significant safety incident within our business is rigorously investigated by our team of expert investigators and auditors. The team works with us to identify the root causes of incidents and assist in developing action plans to help prevent a recurrence of any significant incident.
