Energex’s record apprenticeship intake meeting huge demand

Applications are open for Australia’s best electrical industry apprenticeships, with more than 175 roles on offer across Queensland with Energex and Ergon Energy Network.

The big recruitment push, which includes 78 opportunities with Energex depots in South East Queensland, represents the biggest-ever apprentice intake by the state’s electricity distributors.

“These are widely regarded as the best electricity industry trade apprenticeships in the country, and we’re already getting a huge response,” Work Group Leader Mick Hayes said.

“We offer world-class training, the chance to build great career paths, and that sense of making a really important contribution to our neighbourhoods.

“Something that sets the Energex and Ergon Energy apprenticeships apart is the opportunities for Queenslanders to pursue excellent training and work right there in their local communities, whether in a major city or in some of our iconic rural and regional areas.

“Another big bonus for those looking at roles outside the major centres in regional Queensland is that, depending on the location, there are some fantastic non-urban allowances which can be worth up to an extra $35,000 a year, plus extra annual leave, and that great country lifestyle.”

Energex and Ergon Energy Network are offering apprenticeships starting in early 2024 across seven trade disciplines: Distribution Linesperson, Electrotechnology Electrician, Communication Technician, Transmission Linesperson, Mechanical Fitter, Boilermaker, and Plant Operator.

Energex apprenticeships are available at depots and facilities at Banyo, Beaudesert, Berrinba, Boonah, Burleigh Heads, Caboolture, Cleveland, Cooroy, Esk, Gatton, Geebung, Greenslopes, Gympie, Landsborough, Maroochydore, Oxley, Raceview, Southport, Stafford, Stapylton and Victoria Park.

For those looking for a change of scenery, Ergon Energy is recruiting for apprentices at Atherton, Barcaldine, Biloela, Bowen, Bundaberg, Cairns, Charters Towers, Clermont, Cloncurry, Cooktown, Cunnamulla, Dalby, Emerald, Gayndah, Georgetown, Gladstone, Hervey Bay, Home Hill, Ingham, Innisfail, Julia Creek, Kilkivan, Kingaroy, Mackay, Mareeba, Maryborough, Middlemount, Moranbah, Mount Isa, Moura, Mundubbera, Quilpie, Rockhampton, Roma, St George, Stanthorpe, Tara, Thursday Island, Toowoomba, Townsville, Tully, Wandoan, Warwick, Whitsunday, Winton, Yarraman and Yeppoon.
