Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred Update - 12 March

Electricity network update on ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Wednesday 12 March.

AFTERNOON UPDATE

  • Today crews hit areas that are most impacted in terms of severely damaged assets and doing the jobs that require a lot of literal heavy lifting removing massive trees and debris from downed power lines in semi-rural areas. Suburban areas with the most serious network damage were also a keen focus of crews.
  • Despite the difficult jobs today, our crews restored another 14,000 homes and businesses to the network and in total 400,000, or 90 per cent of cyclone affected south east Queensland homes now have their lights back on.
  • Energex is calling on any property owners who don’t have power on, but their next door neighbours do, to call 13 62 62 as their home may have a connection issue crews cannot see without being on site.
  • Energex crews sincerely thank the community of their overwhelming support during this natural disaster!

We are calling for patience and understanding while more than 2,000 staff continue to restore power.

Safety tip
  • If your home has been structurally damaged by the cyclone or inundated by floodwater, Energex crews will have left a Defect Notice in your mailbox or meter box. These homeowners must engage a licensed electrician to repair any defects before they can be reconnected to the network. More information on our website: Getting reconnected after severe weather.
