Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred Update - 15 March

Electricity network update on ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Saturday 15 March.

AFTERNOON UPDATE

Our response
  • As at 4.45pm on Saturday, 15 March 2025 there are 5756 customers remaining without electricity supply from TC Alfred.
  • Our work today, and continuing tomorrow, has been in and around Bonogin, Elanora, Springbrook, Tugun, Wongawallan, Tamborine Village and the mountain, Mudgeeraba, Tallai, Worongary, the Tallebudgera and Currumbin valleys. Robina, Cedar Creek, Mermaid Beach, Miami, Reedy Creek and Upper Coomera.
  • We’re continuing to wrap up repairs in Redland LGA, including Capalaba, Cleveland, Sheldon, Mt Cotton and Redland Bay, as well as remaining pockets of damage in Brisbane.
  • Energex Outage Finder: Emergency Outages provides customers with an expected restoration time for their individual location. This is updated as the restoration progresses, in real time.
  • To support community recovery efforts we have community outreach teams out and about throughout the Gold Coast region and at the Government Community Recovery Hubs to help provide information to customers who remain without power.
Our approach for the restoration is:
  1. Repair/rebuild the high-voltage spine of the network
  2. Work along the low-voltage lines
  3. Check individual service lines and points of attachments.

Energex’s Restoration Plan
  • We have now restored more than 98% of all impacted customers, keeping us ahead of our restoration plan and on target for 100% of impacted customers restored via network or generation supply by tomorrow (Sunday) evening.
Key message for customers:
  • If a customers’ home or business have been affected by flooding, they will need to call a licenced electrical contractor to inspect the wiring and make it safe to re-connect the premises to the electricity supply.
  • Energex crews are calling on any property owners who don’t have power on, but their neighbours do, to call 13 62 62 as their home may have a connection issue Energex cannot see without being on site.

MORNING UPDATE

Our response
  • As at 7:15am on Saturday, 15 March 2025 there are 8967 customers remaining without electricity supply from TC Alfred. Supply has been restored to more than 8,000 customers across all regions of SEQ since yesterday morning.
  • The focus for the remainder of the incident response will be in the worst impacted areas of the network. This includes Bonogin, Mudgeeraba, Worongary, Tallai, Tamborine Mountain and Tamborine as well as Tallebudgera Valley, Currumbin Valley, Burleigh Heads, and Palm Beach where there are extensive network repairs currently underway before power can be restored.
  • While we understand there is curiosity from members of the public about where damage has occurred, we’d encourage people not to go sightseeing over the weekend as we will have a very high number of trucks and machinery travelling on all of the roads around the Gold Coast and hinterland region throughout the weekend.
