Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred Update - 16 March
Electricity network update on ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Sunday 16 March.
Our response
- As at 7am on Sunday, 16 March 2025 there are 3900 customers remaining without electricity supply from TC Alfred (note, the Outage Finder is now showing incidents not related to TC Alfred).
- Supply has been restored to more than 5,100 customers in South East Queensland since yesterday morning.
- Yesterday (Saturday) our crews found a number of trees and branches that have fallen in the Gold Coast region, several days after the passing of ex-Cyclone Alfred, and after our initial damage assessment was undertaken, which hindered our progress. These occurred in the Currumbin Valley, Tallai and Worongary areas. This was also observed during the severe weather event in the Gold Coast hinterland during Christmas 2023. Trees can fall several days after the impact of the event, due to rotten branches and trunks, or very wet ground.
- Our final day of work today will be concentrated in and around Bonogin, Worongary, Mudgeeraba, Tallai, Mermaid Beach, Springbrook, Currumbin Valley, Tugun, Elanora, Tallebudgera Valley, Tallebudgera, Currumbin Waters, Austinville, Labrador and Robina.
- We have some final wrap up repairs in the Brisbane City Council area and at Mount Cotton.
- We have now restored more than 99% of all impacted customers, and we are on target for 100% of impacted customers restored via network or generation supply by this evening.
- Energex Outage Finder: Emergency outages provides customers with an expected restoration time for their individual location. This is update as the restoration progresses, in real time.
Key message for customers:
- If a customers’ home or business have been affected by flooding, they will need to call a licenced electrical contractor to inspect the wiring and make it safe to re-connect the premises to the electricity supply. There will be customers unable to re-connect until their damaged properties have been repaired and made safe by a licenced electrician.
- Energex crews are calling on any property owners who don’t have power on, but their neighbours do, to call 13 62 62 as their home may have a connection issue Energex cannot see without being on site.
