Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred Updated - 13 March
Electricity network update on ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Thursday 13 March.
Our response
- As at 7am on Thursday 13 March 2025 there are 33,000 customers without electricity supply.
- Despite being required to hack through jungle-like conditions to gain access to damage in the hinterland areas, and having to rebuild entire sections of network in other locations, crews restored power to 16,000 homes and businesses yesterday.
- Crew have now restored a total of 416,000 customers since the beginning of this event which equates to nearly 93% of all impacted customers now restored. This means we are nearly 48 hours ahead of our restoration plan.
- Energex Outage Finder: Emergency Outages has been updated with the expected restoration times for each individual network impact.
Current outages:
Energex’s Restoration Plan is to have:
- 95% restored by Friday evening.
- The remaining 5% will be restored over the weekend and will include the communities of Currumbin Valley, Tallebudgera Valley, Springbrook.
- 100% of impacted customer restored via network or generation supply by Sunday evening.
Restoration update
- With restoration work wrapping up in Ipswich, Lockyer, Fraser Coast, Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands and Logan, these crews will relocate to assist efforts on the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim over the weekend.
- Nearly all of the Bay Islands have been restored by network or generation supply, only a small section on Russell Island remains for today (223 customers).
- The worst impacted areas of the network have so far been identified as Tallebudgera Valley, Currumbin Valley, Burleigh Heads, and Palm Beach. These areas will require extensive network replacement, rather than network repairs.
- Energex has patrolled more than 9,000 km of network in this event, which is the equivalent of driving to Perth, and back.
Special call out
- Energex crews are calling on any property owners who don’t have power on, but their neighbours do, to call 13 62 62 as their home may have a connection issue Energex cannot see without being on site.
