Transformer monitoring data
Making transformer monitoring data available for research will allow for analysis of seasonal trends, and to investigate the impact of Distributed Energy Resources (such as solar, batteries and EVs) on our network, as we transition towards net-zero.
Transformer monitors are installed on the low voltage (LV) terminals of our distribution transformers to record power quality performance. They are used to evaluate voltage compliance and transformer utilisation. Whilst an aggregated summary of compliance is provided in the Distribution Annual Planning Report, per-transformer data allows for many additional insights.
To satisfy privacy requirements, all distribution transformer monitors with fewer than 25 connections have been removed.
Data format
Transformer monitor data is supplied in the NEM12 Meter Data File Format developed by Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). They are grouped by operational area, with the file name containing the operational number of the distribution substation and the financial year of the data.
The below table shows how the NEM12 Data streams should be interpreted.
Data suffix | Unit | Measure |
---|---|---|
V1 / v2 / v3 | V | Voltage |
I1 / I2 / I3 | A | Current |
<1 / <2 / <3 | ° | Current Phase Angle |
T1 / T2 / T3 | % | Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) |
Further information regarding the configuration of our electricity distribution network can be found in our Distribution Annual Planning Report.
